"Toy of the Gods"
BY;fernand jiro
She was beauty beyond compare, but the shine to her halo lacked.
But the gods did not mind, That their legend was impure…
For a better job she did then any that had come before.
"Look at how she kills." They boasted. "Our angel tainted black...
Look at the creatures she's cast out. Look at the demons earth now lacks."
All this weight she bore and never a sign she gave,
that her will to kill the dark was beginning to slighten, beginning to wave.
So the gods continued, to call her forth at will…
All of hells darkest demons fell before her skill
But the gods are fickle creatures and small game was never their prize
So one night they called their angel in and with a twinkle in their eyes...
Said this…
" So little have we asked of you these thousand years past
now you have a job to do a unquestionable task...
You shall go to hell, indeed this very night.
There you shall take on a creature that makes all of heaven quiver in fright.
" For we are not the only that enjoy our deadly games..."
"The devil called us forth you see to match his sword against out own
So his darkest angel you shall face and you shall do it so, alone."
The angel could only stare at the orders that they gave
You see she had be thinking about the blood that stained her hands
The Gods were unbiased about the lives she took, calling for both demon and mortal mans.
All they sought was power and all her life she gave Let her sword fall where they willed
and was silent as so many were placed in their grave.
But she had no choice it was this or be cast out...
And heaven was high the ground so far...
The Gods had warned her long ago
that none survived the fall.
What could she say to them but yes?
Indeed this was only another of their tests.
One more demon, one last kill.
One more monster to be victim to her skill
Or so they thought...
Wide grey eyes looked to the gods she had always served
and with sunset lips she smiled and dark hair fell
as she gave a little bow.
The lie they didn't realize
for she gave it as a vow
“My gods.." She spoke, a voice like summer rain
“I shall do as you bid, always as you ask
never have I failed a single of your tasks.
My skill has never faulted, my blade is always true.
Every kill that I’ve made I have made for you...
So one more demon black as winter’s night
is of little consequence.
I shall fight and one shall fall
and bask heaven in its dying light..."
The gods they smiled and took her words to heart
they sent her forth from heaven and that's how the ending starts.
It was on Hells own ground Heavens greatest angel would meet defeat
They would fight and she would fall and that's the secret she keeps
She stood, blazed in radiant light then darkness fell and the ground did swell
and forth came the creature that walked with the night
Fangs and claws, twisted features
scales and wings, a monster created from all dark things.
A scythe made of black, a soul he would lack.
This is what she expected to find...
He came instead, broken halo on his head
and wings that nearly matched her own.
He was, as she could see, not a creation of twisted mastery...
But a soul warp and bent about
Treated a nothing and cast out.
He had the wings of an angel, black faintly tinted white
and within his eyes he held all the beauty of the night.
Something the angel had seen, but never known…
and in that instant her sword tip dropped, she knew defeat had been found:
For she could not bring her sword to touch the darkest angel
who calmly stood his ground.
He came forward and she didn't move for where in existence could she go?
She had meant to put up a fight, not give in willingly so.
But on he came, with pale white skin reached out
and with one touch he'd captured her heart.
She realized even death was not the gate
that could ever keep them apart.
The gods fell into a fury. This could not be so!
Their greatest angel beaten, and without a single blow?!
But the darkest angel, simply wrapped her in his wings
Held her to his heart he gently whispered, soft comfort her ear.
As heaven tore itself apart.
